Fog of War
Board Game Prototype
"Fog of War" invites players into a realm of uncertainty, where strategic cunning is key to victory. Inspired by classic tactical RPG video games like Final Fantasy Tactics, this 1 vs 1 combat game challenges players to navigate ever-changing terrain and hidden armies.
Each player commands an army of 5 units, equipped with 5 unique items, and fortified by a castle. Every item and unit boasts distinct abilities crucial to strategy. Turns unfold as players move their units across the terrain, utilizing item effects, unit abilities, and engaging in battles. Victory demands either defeating all enemy units or storming their castle.
As a passionate tinkerer, I took joy in crafting prototype components for "Fog of War." I laser-cut tiles from chipboard, printed terrain on sticker paper, and collaborated with my partner Heidi on design aspects. The card stands, 3D printed by a friend, and the sturdy 180 gsm cards with heavy-weight sleeve protectors, enhance the tactile experience.
The essence of board game design lies in playtesting, where community feedback plays a pivotal role. I've showcased "Fog of War" at two conventions and numerous friendly gatherings, continually refining its gameplay based on player insights and enthusiasm.
