hell0world (hell-zero-world) is an augmented reality tour of George Brown College’s School of Design 3rd floor, showcased during the 2023 Year End Show. Drawing inspiration from Dante’s journey through hell in the "Inferno," my team and I reimagined a modern-day abyss of dark screens. Visitors were guided by a mysterious and charming usher dressed in red velvet, embarking on a journey from hell to the ruins of civilizations, and ultimately to a future devoid of homes. Themes of technology, attention, remnants, and nature intertwine along the visitors' path.
We began with a LiDAR scan of the proposed route, a 60-meter trek from the elevator to the gallery room. The journey was structured into three acts. Each area was populated with assets and textured to create a distinct atmosphere, with clear gates or passages marking each boundary.
Guests used an iPad as their window into the virtual realm. A red velvet curtain concealed the device, revealed to users upon presenting their tickets to the usher, evoking a theatrical experience. To enhance the tactile element, we attached moss to the back of the device, allowing users to feel a connection to nature as they delved into the digital reality.
I played the role of tour guide, dressed as a devilishly mysterious and charming usher. I shared my expertise of this unknown place with visitors, engaging both mind and senses. The tour encouraged not just understanding what we were seeing but also questioning our perspectives, morals, and visions of the future.
